As part of the programme “Akzent Barock!” of Theater Aachen, musicians of the Aachen Symphony Orchestra cultivate historical performance practice in selected operatic and concert projects, under the guidance of specialists in early music. The Little Consort is the chamber music ensemble of Akzent Barock!.
Around 1736, Jean-Marie Leclair – at that time Ordinaire de la Musique du Roi at the court of Louis XV and simultaneously one of the most popular violin composers among amateur musicians – composed a suite for two violins and basso continuo in D major entitled “Récréation de Musique”. This varied and engaging suite also lends its name to the concert presented by The Little Consort.
The programme’s true hidden star, however, is the viola d’amore. Its particular suitability for chordal and arpeggiated playing, as well as its exceptional tonal range, is brought fully to the fore in Antonio Vivaldi’s concerto RV 392.
