Ensemble Leones is a top-level ensemble of specialists dedicated to the performance of early music under the direction of Marc Lewon. Thorough knowledge of historical sources, virtuosity, and a vivid performance style are at the forefront of their work. The ensemble is composed differently for each programme.
In the Middle Ages, courtly love symbolized an ideal — almost platonic, unattainable, and spiritualized. This concept of love inspired the music and poetry of the troubadours of the 12th and 13th centuries, such as Oswald von Wolkenstein, Neidhart von Reuental, and Walther von der Vogelweide. Their sensitive verses, set to music and preserved in early musical notation, form the basis of this concert.
At the opening of the evening, the ensemble offers an overview of medieval instrumentation and shares insights into the fascinating research undertaken to bring this music to performance.
The venue is accessible via the entrance Kurhausstraße/Bushof.
