During the Renaissance, music in England experienced a golden age, yet it was also a time of great change, driven by religious division. The Gesualdo Six’s program explores the extraordinary journey of composition during the English Reformation, featuring works by Tallis, Byrd, Sheppard, Dunstable, and Cornysh.
The award-winning British vocal ensemble The Gesualdo Six brings together some of the finest consort singers in the United Kingdom. Founded in 2014 by Owain Park for a performance of Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories in Cambridge, the ensemble has since been praised for its imaginative programs and impeccable sound. The Gesualdo Six has performed at numerous major festivals across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Highlights include a concert as part of the prestigious Deutschlandradio Debut Series, appearances at renowned venues such as Wigmore Hall in London, the Miller Theatre in New York, and the Sydney Opera House, as well as their debut at the BBC Proms in 2023.
The group released their debut recording, English Motets, on Hyperion Records in early 2018 to critical acclaim, followed by eight further albums. Their latest album, Queen of Hearts, was released in June 2024.
